CHAPTER EIGHTEEN

Sky

Last night Sin had called to talk to the kids before they went to bed. Both had been disappointed that he had to work but they handled it.

Me…not so much.

I knew his club was being targeted by some very bad people but I didn’t know why. And then there was the problem with Ravi Sharma. It still bothered me that I had allowed a gangster anywhere near my daughter. I should have known better, should have been more careful. I was angry at myself for falling for one of the oldest tricks in the book.

The white knight riding up to rescue the poor damsel with two flat tyres.

I should have said no thank you and called Bry. Instead I fell for his line of crap.

I eventually fell asleep, a very restless sleep.

I half-woke when he lifted the duvet and slid into bed next to me. He smelt of the shower he had taken, citrusy and fresh and I snuggled into him, letting out a contented sigh. The last thing I remember was him whispering sweetly in my ear.

“I love you, my Sky.”

Now it was morning and we were about to have an argument.

Boots came in while I was preparing breakfast for all of us and they started talking about having to send out a truck to buy supplies. Sin was in charge of selecting the group that would go and buy said supplies. He would be going with them.

They were discussing which of the women would be available to go along.

Apparently Aunt Suzy, Gail and Genna were unavailable because they were preparing the accommodations we would be moving to tonight. DC was overseeing the prospects and club girls packing stuff at the clubhouse and because she was pregnant wasn’t allowed out the gates anyway. Leo and Chris were securing and closing down their pub. River, Tori, Harmony, Vash and Martie were packing up the playrooms and the kids’ computer room.

That left Sunny and me. Sunny wasn’t available because she was busy at her big cat sanctuary.

Of all the women at the club I was the only one without a job to do.

It sucked. I wanted to help.

I waited for a lull in their conversation to drop my bomb.

“I can go. I feel guilty that I’m not doing anything to help.”

Sin’s shaking head let me know he was not going to be easy to convince.

“No. You’re not stepping foot outside the gates.” He growled at me.

“I’ll be safe with you and your friends, and the kids will be safe with Cal and his men. You need someone to organise and keep track of the purchases. I can make a master list and divide it between us, that way we’ll get it done quicker than having one list and everyone running around the shop.”

Boots looked at me then at Sin and gave a short nod.

“She has a point, Sin. None of the brothers have ever done this shit. Aunt Bee used to take care of it and we never gave a thought to how we got fed every day.
